KS-ARDAP

A Proactive Early Warning System for Food Security in Kenya.

The KS-ARDAP initiative is a data-driven platform designed to empower smallholder farmers and build a sustainable, climate-resilient agricultural sector in East Africa.

The Challenge: A Cycle of Crisis

Smallholder farming communities in East Africa are severely threatened by recurring climate shocks, primarily extreme drought. The current humanitarian framework is often reactive, mobilizing resources only after a disaster strikes, leading to irreversible losses for vulnerable populations, especially women and youth.

The KS-ARDAP Operation

Our system is a proactive, data-driven early warning platform that fuses satellite, IoT, and AI technologies to mitigate the effects of extreme climate events. Click each card to learn more.

📊

Satellite Data Fusion

Utilizing tools like FAO WaPOR for macro-level analysis.

How it Works

The system analyzes satellite data on water productivity and biomass to establish baseline conditions and detect early signs of water stress.

đŸ›°ī¸

IoT Sensor Network

Low-cost sensors for real-time, on-the-ground validation.

Ground-Truthing

Sensors collect real-time soil moisture and temperature data, refining satellite data for specific microclimates and enhancing prediction accuracy.

🧠

Federated AI Engine

Processes combined data to predict drought events with 95% confidence.

Hyperlocal Alerts

The AI processes both data streams to predict the onset of a water-related crisis, moving from a general forecast to a specific, farm-level alert.

🔗

Automated Action

Smart contracts deliver timely alerts and support to farmers.

Anticipatory Action

When confidence is high, the system automatically sends SMS/email alerts with actionable advice, enabling farmers to prepare before the crisis hits.

How It Works: From Data to Action

The system follows an automated four-step process to turn data into decisive action for farmers. Click each step to see the details.
